Is a fence permit required in Northwest Arkansas?

Yes — permit requirements vary by city. Thomas Fence maintains a list of local towns with links to each city's permitting website. Each customer is responsible for obtaining their own permit, and we're happy to help with the process. See permit information by city →

Does Thomas Fence pull permits for customers?

No. Because permit rules vary significantly between cities and HOAs, each customer is responsible for obtaining their own permit. Thomas Fence is happy to assist and answer questions, but the permit is the customer's responsibility.

Does Thomas Fence stain fences?

No. Staining is not a service Thomas Fence provides. We're happy to refer you to reputable staining companies in the area.

How long before work starts after I accept a quote?

Typically 1–3 weeks from the time you accept the fence quote. There is always a minimum 3-day delay to complete the required underground utility locate (811). A project manager will call 1–2 days before crews arrive.

Who calls 811 for the utility locate?

Thomas Fence calls 811 (One Call) on every job — it is required by Arkansas state law before any digging begins. You don't need to do anything for this step.

What utilities are NOT marked by One Call?

Privately owned lines are not marked by the One Call system. This includes septic systems, irrigation lines, outbuilding electrical, and private pool or gas lines. If you have any of these on your property, please identify their locations before installation begins.

How long does fence installation take?

Most typical residential fence installations take 2–3 business days from start to finish. Larger or more complex projects may take longer. Your project manager will give you an expected timeline when scheduling.

Does Thomas Fence use concrete for fence posts?

Yes. Concrete is standard practice on every Thomas Fence installation unless otherwise agreed upon in writing before the job begins.

Is a deposit required?

No deposit is required for standard installations. The exception is special order materials or custom metal work, which may require a deposit. Thomas Fence prefers to wait until the work is complete before requesting payment.

Can I pay by credit card?

Yes. Credit cards are accepted. A 3.5% processing fee is added to credit card payments. There is no cash discount.

What warranty does Thomas Fence offer?

Thomas Fence offers a one-year craftsmanship warranty included in every written contract. Ornamental steel panels also carry a lifetime residential warranty from the manufacturer. See warranty details →

How long should I wait before staining a new wood fence?

For pressure-treated pine, wait 1–3 months before staining to allow the wood to fully dry. Cedar can be stained immediately after installation.
